Ford Mustang Recall
19 November 2024
This Ford Australia has recalled 750 vehicles from the recently launched S650 Generation range, due to a fault that causes the digital instrument cluster to fail and go blank.
In The recall notice states that ‘Due to a software issue, the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) may fail to illuminate the visual and audible seat belt warnings, vehicle speed, fuel level, engine status, and other critical safety information.’
Given that Owners that have taken delivery of affected cars will be contacted by Ford Australia to have the matter dealt with free of charge.
A stop sale has been placed on affected cars that are yet to be delivered. At the time of writing, the fix for the issue is unknown and Ford dealers do not know how long it will take for a solution to be implemented.
Many Ford customers awaiting delivery of their Mustangs are furious at the lack of communication and clarity from Ford. There are also concerns around how and where the Mustangs will be stored while awaiting resolution, with many customers concerned about the impact of having their car sit in a holding yard for an extended period.
There are also concerns around the side effects that may occur if the dashboard needs to be removed as part of the fix. It seems no one wants to take delivery of a weathered, squeaky or rattling ‘Stang.
Information about the recall including affected VINs can be found here.
The It further states that, ‘A loss of safety system warnings such as engine status, seat belt warning and/or critical safety information whilst driving, could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road user and bystanders.’
