1990 Holden Special Vehicles SS Group A Commodore
VN Group A SS - XV2 - Alpine White - Pilot car. Original Prototype This is a very rare opportunity to purchase a unique car with a amazing history. Life for this VN began as Special Vehicle Order 257. A prototype / Pilot Group A SS vehicle that was designated as the drivetrain test and engineering development car. For on road testing the car received full compliance tags and road registration, making this unique for a Pilot car.
After its 36,000 kms of ADR required development and testing Holden Motorsports Manager John Lindell approached 1991's Inaugural 12 hours of Bathurst winner Peter Fitzgerald to campaign the car. The car was then prepared by Fitzgerald Racing Services with support from Holden Motorsport. The engine was hand built by HRT, the block number being HRT 92E 001. We believe this makes this car the first HRT optimized roadcar produced, predating a handful of late VR's and VS GTSR HRT $10,000 option by roughly 4 years.
The car was then sold by GMH to the Strathfield Racing team, who used the car as a pit mock up of the Strathfield race car. Frequently driven by Wayne Gardner, and seen in Racetrack pits around the country. The car in this guise went on to compete in tarmac rallies ( IndyCar ) and featured in many posters and videos, all included in a extensive collection of memorabilia that accompanies the car.
In the 1992 James Hardie 12 hours of Bathurst, after a stint of leading the race, a disintegrating fuel bladder causing fuel supply issues hampered efforts. The car finished, coming in 13th just ahead of Peter Brock in the Peugeot 406 (14th)
